Sajith blasts govt. for turning country into auction house
The government is fast turning Sri Lanka into an auction house by selling national assets one by one, Opposition and SJB leader Sajith Premadasa has said, urging people to line up against the government’s selling spree.
Speaking at a public rally in Nivitigala, Ratnapura, on Tuesday, the Opposition Leader said that the government had sold outright 17 acres that belonged to Gintota Plywood Corporation for Rs 8.2 million and the purchaser has subdivided it and commenced auctioning those plots of land.
“This has been done while there is an ongoing inquiry into that land at the parliamentary consultative committee,” Premadasa said, adding that the people had to come forward and join the SJB to prevent the government’s efforts to turn the country into an auction house.
Earlier in the day, Premadasa opened a smart classroom equipped with SJB funds at Elapatha Maha Vidyalaya.
