Sajith: All parties have responsibility to find truth about Easter carnage
By Rathindra Kuruwita
It was the responsibility of all political parties to ensure that the truth about the Easter Sunday attacks was revealed, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said yesterday at a Christmas event at his office in Colombo.
“On Easter Sunday in 2019, a great tragedy occurred. Hundreds of Christians were killed and many more wounded when terrorists blew themselves up in several locations around the country. The Christian community acted with great restraint. They did not ask for an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,” he said.
Premadasa said that the people of the country needed to know the truth about the Easter Sunday carnage and that everyone should unite to bring those responsible to justice.
“It is obvious that most people don’t believe in what either the government or the opposition had to say about the Easter Sunday attacks. Everyone has a responsibility to help find the truth,” he said.
The Opposition Leader added that the Catholic Church had been seeking justice for those who were killed in the blasts for over two years and that they were increasingly losing faith in the state’s ability to find solutions.
“The attacks happened under our watch. We must all take action because we must not let people lose faith in the state,” he said.
