Sadness follows New Year celebrations…Down Under
In most parts of the world, New Year’s Eve celebrations were held on a low key, mainly due to the pandemic that has engulfed the whole world.
Down Under, in Melbourne, there were a few cancellations, as well, as some decided to stay indoors and not venture out.
However, the New Year scene, in Melbourne, turned into sadness for Sri Lankans, not only in Melbourne, but the world over, with the demise of the ever popular entertainer/singer Desmond de Silva.
Des flew in from Sydney, on December 28th, and went into action, on December 31st., at ‘The Lounge’ in the Docklands, in Melbourne.
However, on January 2nd, while staying with a friend, in Melbourne, Des showed signs of illness and was rushed to hospital but passed away on January 9th, at 6.00 pm. (Australian time).
Reports indicatethat Desmond died of a heart attack.
Yes, we are all certainly going to miss this one-of-a-kind singer/entertainer.
Des is the father of the late Steve de Silva (singer), and leaves behind his wife Phyllis, daughter, Jackie (Australia), Shaun (Dubai) and five grandchildren
