Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, PC, has denied Indian media reports that China is planning to establish a radar base in Southern Sri Lanka.

Appearing on Derana ‘360’ on Monday night, Minister Sabry said that China hadn’t made such a request contrary to media reports. The Minister said so when Derana anchor Sanka Amarjith asked whether Sri Lanka has granted permission for China to establish a radar base in the Southern Province. the Minister claimed that no such request has been made from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so far, and that therefore, any such approval has not been granted to China.

Commenting on the proposed Anti-Terrorism Act, the former Justice Minister said that he did not agree with certain provisions in the proposed Anti-Terrorism Bill.

The Minister said that he was opposed to empowering a DIG to issue detention orders. It must not be allowed.
