RW to attend Nikkei Forum in Tokyo

President Ranil Wickremesinghe, will undertake an official visit to Japan from tomorrow (24) to Saturday (27).

During his stay, President Wickremesinghe is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister of Japan Kishida Fumio to exchange views on bilateral relations between Japan and Sri Lanka, and regional and international affairs.

The President is also scheduled to attend the Nikkei Forum on the Future of Asia.

The visit is the first by a Sri Lankan leader to Japan after cancellation of the Japan-funded Light Rail Transit project soon after the 2020 August general election here. Japan suspended projects here against that backdrop and reviewed relations with Sri Lanka. Sources said that President Wickremesinghe would seek to restore relations with Japan as in the past.
