Royal-Thomian to commence knockout stage

Under 19 Division I Limited Overs Cricket

The quarter-finals of the Under 19 Division I Limited Overs tournament will commence with Royal College taking on unbeaten S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia at St. Peter’s College ground Bambalapitiya on Saturday (11).

The Thomians are the leading team after having topped group ‘Y’ of the Tier ‘A’ tournament. They have eight victories under their belt. Of them seven were bonus point victories. Royal competing in group ‘X’ managed to conclude the league stage with four victories.

In Group ‘X’, De Mazenod overtook defending champions Trinity to secure the group leader’s position as they registered vital victories towards the business end of the league stage. The former champions St. Joseph’s ended up as the second runner up in that group. They will now meet group ‘Y’ counterparts Richmond, Mahanama, Colombo and St. Sebastian’s Moratuwa

Richmond were the runners up to S. Thomas’ with six victories in group ‘Y’. Mahanama with five wins and St. Sebastian’s with four victories finished third and fourth in the group.

The dates of the other quarter-finals were yet to be finalized.

Dharmaraja reach quarter-finals after a long time

Ananda College and Thurstan College were the champions in their respective groups in the Tier ‘B’ tournament. In group ‘X’, St. Peter’s, St. Aloysius’ and Dharmaraja finished second, third and fourth respectively. Group champions Ananda had six victories against their name.

While Thurstan registered five victories in group ‘X’, Lumbini, Mahinda and new kids on the block St. Sebastian’s, Katuneriya finished second, third and fourth respectively to advance to the quarter-finals.
