Royal Asiatic Society lecture on Fr. Perniola

Independent historian, Avishka Mario Senewiratne, will on Monday (May 13) present a lecture at the Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka on the life and works of Fr. Vito Perniola SJ (1913-2016).The talk will begin at 5 pm in the council room of the Royal Asiatic Society, Mahaweli Centre, Green Path, Colombo 7 (near the Art Gallery). All are welcome to attend.

Fr. Perniola who was an exemplary Pali Scholar, known for his Pali Grammar as well as his 19 volumes on the Roman Catholic Church of Sri Lanka. He spent 80 years of his life in this country.

A few weeks before his 100th birthday, the Royal Asiatic Society presented him the prestigious S. C. Obeyesekere Award for his service in enriching the history and linguistics of Sri Lanka. Senewiratne, will be one of the youngest speakers to present a lecture at the Royal Asiatic Society which was established in 1845.
