Road rules strictly enforced during Vesak festival – SSP Thalduwa
Police will strictly enforce traffic laws during the Vesak period, police spokesman, SSP Nihal Thalduwa said. In recent years, many motorists have grown accustomed to receiving leniency from law enforcement during festive seasons, but that will not be the case this time around.
SSP Thalduwa expressed concern over the reckless behaviour of some motorcyclists and three-wheeler drivers who violate the law by carrying more passengers than allowed. He warned that fines and legal action will be taken against such individuals who break the rules.
Additionally, the police spokesman urged young people to refrain from wearing Guy Fawkes masks, which have been causing annoyance and disturbance to those who have come to enjoy Vesak festivities.
Motorists were advised to avoid parking their vehicles in a manner that obstructs traffic. Parking on pavements or in a way that inconveniences others is not allowed and vehicles will be towed away if necessary.
