St. Joseph’s recovered thanks to a valuable seventh wicket partnership of 50 runs to post 162 for seven wickets at stumps in the traditional Under 19 cricket encounter at Ananda Mawatha on Monday.

The Joes collapsed losing six wickets for 103 runs as left-arm spinner Ashinsa Nainayake excelled in the bowling department. Rishma Amarasinghe anchored the line up with an unbeaten 40 runs. His seventh wicket stand with Aveesha Samash was worth 50 runs.

The impressive performance in the field is a huge morale boost for the home team as they try to bounce back from a huge ten wickets defeat at the hands of Lumbini last week.

Only 42 overs were possible on day one after the match got off to a late start due to wet ground conditions.

Scores:

162 for seven in 42 overs (Rishma Amarasinghe 40n.o., Aveesha Samash 32, Abishek Jayaweera 32; Ashinsa Nainayake 5/45) (RF)
