Richmond, S. Thomas’ heading for decisive clash

Richmond rout St. Anne’s to record sixth consecutive win

Richmond College, Galle further cemented their top position in Group ‘Y’ of the Under 19 Division I Tier ‘A’ limited overs cricket tournament with massive ten wickets victory over St. Anne’s, Kurunegala at Dombagoda on Tuesday.

It was their sixth consecutive victory as they continued their unbeaten run in the tournament.

Earlier in the tournament, Richmond beat St. Servatius’ (by four wickets according to Parabola Method) , Nalanda (by 101 runs), St. Anthony’s Katugastota (by two wickets), St. Sebastian’s Moratuwa (by nine wickets) and Wesley (by eight wickets).

Yesterday, Richmond reduced St. Anne’s to 57 runs before their first wicket pair of Helitha Edirisinghe (15n.o.) and Chehan Subasinghe (30n.o.) put on an unfinished partnership to cruise to victory in the 11th over.

Except Chamith Sasenjana who top scored with 17 runs, no other batsman could reach double figures for St. Anne’s as Thamindu Pradeeptha and Kaveesha Induwara picked up two wickets each.

In the bowling department, Yuri Koththigoda (15 wickets) and Kaveesha Induwara (13 wickets) are the leading wicket takers for Richmond, while Chehan Subasinghe (over 250 runs) and Thamindu Pradeeptha (close to 200 runs) have scored the bulk of runs. Pradeeptha also has an unbeaten century (105n.o. Wesley) against his name. Richmond did not have the services of their Sri Lanka Under 19 all rounder Malsha Tharupathi for at least four matches. He is expected to join the team for the last two encounters.

With three matches to go before they conclude the league stage, their match against S. Thomas’ will be crucial as the latter too have remained unbeaten. The Thomians registered their seventh victory yesterday beating St. Sebastian’s by 61 runs according to Parabola Method after rain curtailed the encounter at Mount Lavinia.

S. Thomas’ have played eight matches so far. They beat Gurukula (by seven wickets), St. Anne’s (by 62 runs according Parabola Method), St. Anthony’s Katugastota (by three wickets), St. Servatius’ (by 45 runs according to Parabola Method), Mahanama (by 77 runs according to Parabola Method) and Wesley (by 27 runs) while the match against Nalanda ended in no decision.
