Revised petrol, diesel prices

The two main fuel distributors of Sri Lanka, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and Lanka Indian Oil Corporation (LIOC), increased prices from yesterday (24) morning.

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said that the Cabinet of Ministers that met on Monday night had agreed on a fuel price formula and that the prices were increased based on that.

The state owned CPC announced that the price of a litre of 92 octane petrol would be increased by Rs. 82 and the new revised price would be Rs. 420.

A litre of 95 octane petrol increased by Rs 77 to Rs 450.

Meanwhile, a litre of Auto Diesel increased by Rs 111 to Rs 400. A litre of Super Diesel increased by Rs 116 S to Rs 445.

LIOC announced that it too would revise prices to match those of the CPC.

Earlier, in April 2022, CPC jacked up its fuel prices. The price of Octane 92 petrol rose by 33.1 percent to a record Rs 338 Sri Lankan rupees a litre, and the price of auto diesel increased by 64.2 percent to 289 rupees.

Earlier this month Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that fuel prices would have to be increased as the loss incurred by the CPC in 2021 was Rs. 83 billion
