Remembering Upali Group Founder
The Upali Group of Companies, its employees, and sales agents, countrywide, marked the Founder’s Day with religious observances to invoke blessings on its founder, Upali Wijewardene, who disappeared in his Lear-jet, 40 years ago. Bodhi Pooja, Pahan Pooja and almsgiving ceremonies were held, in his memory. A special Bodhi Pooja was held at the Kelani Raja Maha Viharaya and alms were offered to the Maha Sangha. Scholarships to 10 needy children from the Helena Wijewardene Maha Vidyalaya, Kelaniya were given. An almsgiving for the inmates of the mome for the elders, at Mulgampola, Kandy, Bodhi Pooja Pinkama and Kavi Bana Pinkama, at the Ceylon Chocolates factory premises.

Bodhi Pooja, Pahan Pooja and Kavibana deshana were held at Vidya Niketha Piriven Viharaya, Sapugoda Kamburupitiya. The employees of Upali Consumer Products offered an almsgiving lunch at the MS Jayawardena Children’s Home, at Mattakkuliya, in Ja-Ela. Holy Mass was held at the Carmelite Convent, by Rev. F.r Lal Pushpadewa OMI. Upali Group CEO/MD Nimal Welgama, Director Finance Lakshman Perera, Company Director Lahiru Gunasekara, Group Personal Manager Neranjan Fonseka, General Manager (Finance) Freeman Tillekaratne, former commercial Manager Srilal Wickremasinghe, Finance Manager Executive Lalin Fernando, General Manager WK Ganesh Kumuara, Accountant Joseph Wijayaratnam, and the staff members, participated in the events.
