The first Regional Manual on the reintegration of migrant workers in the South Asian region was launched on Thursday (14) in Colombo, the Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment announced.
It said the manual was launched during the Working Group Meeting of the Colombo Process, held with the participation of representatives from 11 countries. The manual includes best practices and methodologies for sustainable gender-responsive reintegration of returning migrant workers.
The Ministry said that during the meeting, delegates discussed three thematic areas: evaluation of skills and qualifications; cost-effective, fast and secure exchange of remittances; and fair and ethical recruitment practices.
Migrant workers’ remittances are one of the main sources of foreign revenues for Sri Lanka.Over 275,000 Sri Lankans have gone for foreign jobs by the end of November 2023, Foreign Minister Ali Sabry told Parliament last week.
