Despite a pledge by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) top management to limit daily power cuts to four hours from Monday, they are likely to last as long as six and a half hours in most parts of the country today (05) due to the prevailing diesel shortage.

The CEB yesterday said in a communique that power cuts would be imposed in 12 zones ‘A’ to ‘L’ between 8.00 am to 5.00 pm for four hours and from 5.00 pm to 7.30 pm for 2 hours and 30 minutes in the evening.

Eight zones from ‘P’ to ‘W’ will experience power cuts from 10.00 am and 6.00 pm for four hours and between 6.00 pm to 11.00 pm for two hours and 30 minutes.

The CEB also stated that the power supply to the Commercial Zone in Colombo will be cut from 6.00 am to 9.30 am for 3 hours and 30 minutes.
