Reckless private bus driver lands seven passengers in hospital

At least seven passengers were hospitalised after a private bus and a lorry collided at Bambalapitiya yesterday (14) morning.

SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the accident had happened near Bullers Road in the Bambalapitiya police area.

The SLPP said the bus had been travelling to Kataragama and overturned after colliding with the lorry.

There were 15 passengers in the bus. Two women and five men injured in the mishap were admitted to the National Hospital, Colombo.

Initial investigations have revealed that the driver of the bus had sped and ignored traffic lights.

Bambalapitiya Police are conducting investigations.

Some 19,740 road accidents were reported in Sri Lanka in 2022, and 2,485 lives were lost in them, according to the police.
