Globally renowned consumer goods conglomerate best known for flagship products such as Dettol, Lysol & Harpic, Reckitt, was selected as the official cleaning partner of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2021 (COP26).

The two-week conference began recently at Glasgow’s SEC Centre. Reckitt’s infection control specialists collaborated with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in preparation of COP26 to assist the event’s host, the United Kingdom Cabinet Office, in mitigating the transmission of illness-causing bacteria.

The procedures devised aided in the protection of the over 25,000 delegates and international leaders who will be in attendance. Furthermore, Reckitt products were utilized to clean and disinfect over 50,000 hotspots across a conference area the size of 48 football fields.

Reckitt’s Pro Solutions team of virologists, microbiologists, and medical scientists spent the last nine months collaborating with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) to assist the United Kingdom Cabinet Office, which hosted COP26, in identifying high-traffic, high-touch areas throughout the conference. Its approach to targeted hygiene concentrates hygiene treatments at critical periods and locations for health, rather than indiscriminate or frequent disinfection, which makes it more effective and sustainable.

The role of Reckitt at COP26 included: Helping ensure disinfection of 123 office spaces, 99 large meeting rooms, 745 toilets & 694 wash basins; deploying 3 environmental health officers (EHOs) to assess deployment of hygiene protocols & quantitatively verifying achievement of acceptable hygiene levels through use of ATP testing; carrying out cloud-based ATP testing for internal monitoring & timely interventions if issues arise and leveraging cutting-edge behavioral science to encourage attendees to be mindful of hygiene.
