Recipient of first Vice-Chancellor Excellence Scholarship from La Trobe University, Australia

La Trobe University a multi-campus university in Victoria, Australia; has awarded its first Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship to student, Prabhash Punsara Bandara Pelawatta from Sri Lanka. Prabhash is the recipient of the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship. He will commence his studies online in November 2020 and will move to Australia to study at La Trobe’s Melbourne campus as soon as the international borders open.

Vice-Chancellor & President, La Trobe University, Professor John Dewar AO, said that the recent pandemic – COVID-19 has impacted globally. In today’s time, international learning is a big choice, particularly when the future is still uncertain. At La Trobe, we have planned a range of scholarships for prospective students to provide them the support, which is required in the changing scenario. The main aim for such significant scholarships is to attract high achieving students to study with La Trobe, Australia to contribute to our diverse student community.

Prabhash Pelawatta, from Sri Lanka has also been given a VC Excellence Scholarship worth Sri Lanka rupees 13.5 million [AUD 101,400]. He is passionate about business of herbal products and is already pursuing his own venture. Prabhash wants to become ‘a professional who drives Innovation through data’. So naturally, he’ll be studying Bachelor of Business Analytics at La Trobe.

According to Prabhash, ‘it’s one of my priorities to protect and embrace Mother Nature. As an entrepreneur and a community member, it’s my responsibility to protect nature and guarantee the safety of my customers.’

However, this mindset makes Prabhash a perfect fit at La Trobe because of its sustainable future including LTU’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2029.
