Re-elected uncontested: Kaushalya Nawaratne secures second term as BASL President
Incumbent President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) Kaushalya Nawaratne was re-elected uncontested for the Year 2024/2025, the BASL said in a press release.Chathura Galhena was elected Secretary.
The BASL statement is as follows: “The Nominations for the posts of President and Secretary of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka for the Year 2024/2025, were accepted on 10 January 2024 by the Returning Officer Indika Demuni de Silva PC, Solicitor General, at the BASL Auditorium. “Kaushalya Nawaratne the incumbent President submitted his nomination papers for the post of President for the second term, while Chathura Galhena submitted his nomination papers for the post of Secretary.
As there were no other nominations, the Returning Officer Indika Demuni de Silva PC, Solicitor General, declared that Kaushalya Nawaratne the incumbent President was elected uncontested as President for the Year 2024/2025 and Chathura Galhena was elected uncontested as Secretary. Isuru Balapatabendi incumbent Secretary will relinquish office after completion of his term of two years. The President and the Secretary will be officially inducted at the 50th Convocation of the BASL to be held on 23 March 2024.”
