Raveen hammers 170 to punish weakened S. Thomas’

With their future in the ongoing tournament already decided, S. Thomas’, Mount Lavinia fielded a second-string team for their last group match against Nalanda. Raveen de Silva took them to task hammering an unbeaten 170 before taking four wickets for four runs to seal a convincing 234 runs victory in the Under-19 Division I Tier ‘A’ match at Campbell Park on Monday.

De Silva scored 14 fours and eight sixes in his knock which came in 136 balls. It was the last match of the league stage for both Nalanda and S. Thomas’. After five matches Nalanda have two wins against their name and are the third placed team in their group behind Richmond and St. Anthony’s, Kandy.

Danaja Sandalidu with a five wicket haul and skipper Pawan Rathnayake with 69 runs helped Mahanama secure six wickets victory and further cement their top position in Group ‘Y’ of the Tier ‘A’ tournament.

St. Joseph’s scored their second victory of the tournament against St. Thomas’ Matara to reach the third position in the points table in their group.

In Tier ‘B’, St. Peter’s and Isipatana continued their unbeaten run, while St. Joseph Vaz stunned Ananda reducing them to 118 runs to record 18 runs win. At Uyanwatta Stadium, Diniru Abeywickramasingha (138) and Malith Lakshan scored centuries for St. Servatius’ and St. Sylvester’s. The visitors pulled off three wickets win with just two balls to spare.
