Raveen, Dunith show as SL U19s record fourth consecutive win
Sri Lanka Under 19s extended their winning streak further in the Youth ODI series against Bangladesh Under-19s as they pulled off a stunning one wicket victory in the fourth Youth ODI that went to the wire at Dambulla on Saturday.
Chasing 225 runs to win, Nalanda College all-rounder Raveen de Silva scored a decisive knock of 88 runs after four wickets fell for 64 runs. He was supported by Pawan Pathiraja (5th wicket) and Vinuja Ranpul (7th wicket) with whom he put on partnerships of 55 runs and 51 runs respectively.
De Silva scored nine fours and a six and had faced 100 balls when he was bowled by Mohiuddin Tareq with just 17 runs behind the target.
When the run chase commenced, the openers Harindu Jayasekara and Ryan Fernando did not have much luck as they were dismissed for 12 and eight runs respectively. Pawan Pathiraja and Shevon Daniel then joined to repair the early damage adding valuable runs.
Batting first the visitors had two batsmen scoring half centuries but the hosts managed to contain them to 224 runs. Skipper Dunith Wellalage was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.
Danal Hemananda and Sasanka Nirmal who replaced Matheesha Pathirana and Treveen Mathew for the fourth match picked up a wicket each while Vinuja Ranpul and Raveen de Silva too took a wicket each.
