Ratnapriya UNP trade union boss

The UNP has appointed former UNP National List MP and civil society activist Saman Ratnapriya de Silva its new public sector trade union leader. UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam early this week issued the letter of appointment to Ratnapriya, who succeeded Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne in parliament in January 2020, with the latter suddenly resigning his national list seat. The parliament was dissolved several weeks later to pave the way for the general election. UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe accommodated Ratnapriya in the UNP National List at the 2020 general election too, but unfortunately the party was only able to obtain just one seat and that being a NL seat they have still not been able to pick someone for it even though veteran John Amaratunga is on top of their list that was handed over with its nominations.
