Ranjan’s words of wisdom

In a recent editorial, The Island editor recalled a statement by former MP Ranjan Ramanayake that they are all friends, meaning that these politicians of all hues are friends. There is another golden aphorism of RR, which needs repetition since therein lies the solution to our foreign exchange crisis.

What The Island in effect stated was that if the loot of the politicians invested abroad could be brought back, then we could avert the foreign exchange crisis. What this means to me is that if the dollars belonging to all ministers since the Mahaweli project of JRJ, to the time of the Lotus project, could be invested here, we will not have to beg for funds. The ministers concerned will also benefit immensely at the current market rate of dollar conversion.
