Former UNP MP Arjuna Ranatunga yesterday (23) said that the Management Committee (MC) of the party had requested party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to accept the solitary National List slot secured by the party at the August general election.

Ranatunga told The Island that Wickremesinghe was the best person to help the government save the country’s economy as it struggled to cope up with the global corona fallout.

The former Gampaha District MP said that the Management Committee had unanimously decided to request Wickremesinghe to fill the slot though he did not want it. In the previous Parliament there were 106 members elected on the UNP ticket.
