Ranawaka’s revision application fixed for 19 May

The revision application filed by Patali Champika Ranawaka in the Court of Appeal seeking the dismissal of an indictment filed against him in the High Court of Colombo, pertaining to a road accident at Rajagiriya ,was next fixed for calling before the Court of Appeal on 19 May. The accident occurred on 28 February 2016.

The IGP directed the Assistant Superintendents of Police of Panadura, Thalangama and Nugegoda to investigate and file further reports pertaining to this accident.

They had filed four reports pertaining to this accident, with CCTV footage, Faiz Mustapha President’s Counsel explained to the Court of Appeal yesterday.

The revision application filed in the Court of Appeal says that on 29 June, 2016 the Magistrate identified the chauffeur employed by Ranawaka, as the person who was responsible for the accident.

The chauffeur had pleaded guilty and the penalty was paid by him.

Counsel Mustapha PC, told the Court that after a lapse of three years and eight months, Patali Ranawaka had been indicted. It was a case of political victimisation, the Counsel said.

Faiz Mustapha PC, appeared with Keerthi Tilakaratne for Patali Ranawaka, Deputy Solicitor General Dilan Ratnayake appeared for the Attorney General.

The bench comprised Justice Nissanaka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice R. Gurusinghe.
