Railway the best way
Few days ago, I was looking for a trishaw to travel to Nawinna from Gangodawila. Only a few three-wheelers stopped, but they refused the hire when I mentioned the destination as it was not on their way home.
As I was near the railway station, I thought of getting into a train. The station was full of people and I managed to buy a ticket, costing Rs 10, and squeezed into a crowded train. Within a few minutes, I alighted at the Nawinna station. If I had taken a bus from the closest point on High Level road it would have cost me Rs 32 or even more, and I would have had to walk 800 metres to the main road again. This shows that train travel is very cheap.
The CGR could increase its revenue by adding two carriages each to all trains for standing passengers. Many people are now travelling by train as they don’t want to waste time in petrol queues with their cars or pay high bus fares. The ever increasing cost of petrol is another reason why more and more people are using public transport.
Trishaws also deserve support. Ceypetco must issue more fuel for them as they render a good service to train travellers to get home.
Over to GMR, who is said to be exploring ways and means of turning the CGR around!
