Rail strike called off

Railway workers called off their strike after a discussion with the officials of the Transport Ministry, yesterday morning (05).Representatives of the Ceylon Railway Guards’ Union, other railway trade unions State Minister of Transport Lasantha Alagiyawanna, and railway officials participated in negotiations. Earlier on Thursday, the Railway Department cancelled leave for all railway workers asking them to return to work by noon.

The surprise strike on Wednesday disrupted railway services, and over 100 trains were cancelled.
