Rahula meet Dharmapala at the 13th Battle of the Golden Lions

Arch rivals Rahula College, Matara and Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya will meet in the 13 Battle of the Golden Lions today and tomorrow at the Uyanwatta Stadium.

The two teams playing in two different Divisions are at contrasting ends towards the end of the two-day tournament.

Rahula led by Pasindu Shehan Liyanage are a team on the cusps of earning promotion to the top Division in the Under 19 Cricket tournament. They were placed third in their group in the Division II Tier ‘A’ tournament and at present have reached the semi-final stage. A win in the semi-final will earn them the Division I promotion.

Dharmapala led by Bisara Anjana are on the verge of being relegated to the lower division. They suffered seven outright defeats during the tournament proper and finished last in their group in the points table. They are bound to play relegation matches.

Hence it will be interesting to note how the two teams would fair at the annual encounter.
