Asian Junior Chess Championships 2021

V.S. Rahul (2387) beat Sri Lanka National Chess Champion, Ranindu Liyanage as India further cemented their top position of the Asian Junior Chess Championships 2021 continued at Citrus Hotel, Waskaduwa yesterday.

Rahul had a score of 6 ½ points and was leading the table with a one-point lead over International Master, G.B. Harshawardana. Harshawardana beat Royal College chess player Isara Dahanayake to stay in the second place with 5 ½ points. Four players, International Masters, Mitrabha Guha, Vardhaan Nagpal and Shrihari Raghunandan of India and hosts Young FIDE Master Susal de Silva were closely following Harshawardana with five points each.

Women International Master B. Shri Savitha of India drew her game against Iranian Women FIDE Master Mehdian Anousha to stay in the lead with 6 points. Indian Women International Master K Priyanka had an easier game with lower rated Sayumi Gamage and had 5 ½ points against her name. Sri Lanka’s Sanudula Dahamdi played well to beat Iranian Mellika Mohammadhi and shared the third position with the latter.

The Asian Junior Chess Championships 2021 which is conducted by the Asian Chess Federation is organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka. A total of 54 players are participating in this event which will conclude on December 23.
