NEW DELHI, September 2:
Rahul Gandhi, former President of India’s opposition Congress Party, on Wednesday listed six “Modi-made disasters”.
Gandhi has been relentless in his attack on the government over its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, the shrinking economy and the ongoing border hostilities with China in the Himalayas that started in early May.
“India is reeling under Modi-made disasters: 1. Historic GDP reduction -23.9%. 2. Highest Unemployment in 45 yrs. 3. 120 million job losses. 4. Centre not paying States their GST (Goods and Services Tax) dues. 5. Globally highest COVID-19 daily cases and deaths. 6. External aggression at our borders,” he tweeted.
On Tuesday, the Congress MP from Kerala’s Wayanad reiterated his stand that the Indian economy collapsed after the November 2016 demonetisation.
Party leader Jairam Ramesh took a dig at BJP’s 2019 campaign line of ‘Modi hain to mumkin hain [Modi makes it possible]’ by tweeting: “Here’s how India became a Vishwaguru under Mr.Modi during COVID-19 pandemic: 1. Fastest contracting economy 2. Most stringent lockdown 3. Fastest rise in cases 4. Fastest rise in deaths. This double whammy was possible ONLY due to the DOUBLE MH formula. Modi Hai to Mumkin Hai!”
Former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, in a tweet, shared the screenshot of a November 2013 tweet when Modi, then as Gujarat Chief Minister, said: “Economy is in trouble, youth want jobs. Devote more time to economics not petty politics”.
“I have to say the same thing to the Honourable Prime Minister!” he tweeted.
