Puttur hospital on strike over police inaction
By Dinasena Ratugamage
Staff of the Puttur Hospital, Jaffna, commenced a strike on Tuesday (25), claiming that the police had failed to act against those who threatened the doctor at the hospital recently.
A few days earlier, a group of people held a religious event, near the hospital, using loudspeakers. The doctor informed the organisers of the event that the loud noise disturbed patients.
A group of people then came into the hospital, damaged property, and threatened to assault the doctor.
A complaint has been lodged with the police. However, the police have not taken any action, despite the strike, hospital workers say.
