Pushpakumara, Herath win Cross Country Championships

H.M.C.S. Herath leads the women's event of the National Cross Country Championship.

Samantha Pushpakumara (RMS) and H.M.C.S. Herath won the men’s and women’s Cross County Championship titles of the National Sports Festival at Nuwara Eliya on Saturday.

Herath clocked 39 minutes and 30 seconds to win the women’s title for the Central Province, while W.A.M.R. Wijesuriya (Eastern Province) finished just two seconds behind to settle for the runner-up title.

W.M.N. Nidharshani (Uva) finished third in a time of 39 minutes and 50 seconds.

In the men’s category, Pushpakumara (Western Province) pipped Vicknaraja Vakshan (Central) to win the event in a time of 34 minutes and four seconds.

Eranda Tennakoon (Uva) finished third (34.38).
