Vasu votes with govt; SJB, TNA and JVP against
The Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions (Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament with a majority of 51 votes yesterday (22).
The PTA Amendment Bill was passed with amendments, with 86 MPs voting in favour and 35 voting against.
The main Opposition SJB, TNA and JVP voted against the Bill. Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara and SLFP MPs voted with the government.
JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake and TNA MP MA Sumanthiran asked for a division on the bill and the vote was taken accordingly.
At the time of the voting out of 225 MPs, only 121 had been present (SI)
