Providing fertilizer subsidy to farmers for the 2024 ‘Yala’ season

Taking into consideration the proposals presented by the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, the Cabinet of Ministers decided as follows:

 To import fertilizer through Ceylon Fertilizer Company Limited and Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company Limited for the 2024 ‘Yala’ season, and sell fertilizer to farmers at concessional prices competitive with the private sector.

 provide a subsidy of Rs.15,000/- per hectare for a maximum of two hectares cultivated by a farmer during the 2024 Yala season through the Department of Agricultural Development.

 directly credit the relevant subsidy to farmers’ bank accounts

The National Fertilizer Secretariat has estimated that  MT 110298.1 of urea, MT 27711.1  of  TSP and MT. 33412.4 of MOP is required for paddy cultivation in the 2024 YALA season.
