Protest opposite President’s house

A protest is currently underway near the President’s house at Pengiriwatte Road, Mirihana against the current economic crisis.
The protest started around 6 pm at the Jubilee Post with some hundreds protesting with torches against power cuts, police said, adding that the number of protesters grew as they announced that they would walk to the President’s House.
Intelligence sources said that the State Intelligence Service and other intelligence units had issued a pre-warning of the protest around noon yesterday and the possibility of snowballing and the protesters leading their way to the President’s residence.
Around 7.30 pm the protesters started their walk to the President’s house at Pengiriwatte road. Later the police summoned the Anti-riot squads but the protesters outnumbered them, police said.
