Protest near President’s residence
A large number of people yesterday held a demonstration at Pangiriwatte Road, Mirihana, where President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s residence is situated. They protested against the rising cost of living and the shortage of essential commodities including fuel. The protest started at the Jubilee Post at 6 pm, and later the protesters walked up to the Pangiriwatte Road.
Vehicular traffic along the 119 road came to a standstill due to the protest. Police and military personnel were deployed and additional road blocks set up to prevent the protesters from entering the President’s house.
The protest was going on at the time of going to press.
