Protest against Microfinance and Credit Regulatory Authority Bill
A civil society group has organised a protest opposite the Fort Railway Station today (17) at noon against the Microfinance and Credit Regulatory Authority Bill submitted to Parliament recently.
The protest will be followed by a seminar at the National Library and Documentation Services Board at 2 pm.
Convenor Renuka Bhadrakanthi told The Island that the Bill was aimed at protecting microfinance companies. State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe said that the Bill was intended to regulate microfinance companies and streamline their services. The Minister stressed that the new law would ensure the safety of the lending business as well as the customers.
