Prof. Lakshman to step down next week
Prof. W. D. Lakshman, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, yesterday announced that he would resign from the post next week. He made this announcement during an online programme.
“I am retiring from the post on 14 September,” Prof. Lakshman said adding that he wanted to resign on his 80th birthday.
Sri Lanka continues to be a developing nation because there are no systems in place and that no one can agree on a long-term policy.
“If you take a look at what happened over the past two weeks, this also played a role in my decision. If I decide to open up, I will comment on the reasons for my retirement, later,” he said responding to a question posed by a journalist whether the government ed him to resign early.
He also denied reports that would be taking up the post at the IMF as the Alternative Executive Director for Sri Lanka.
