Prof. Harendra, three others challenge their removal by Health Minister

Professor of Paediatrics Harendra de Silva, and three other members of the Sri Lanka Medical Council have challenged in the Court of Appeal their removal by the former Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi.

The petitioners have requested the Court to issue a Writ of Certiorari cancelling the action of the former Health Minister.

Yesterday, when the case was called, the Court said it had to look into some issues before deciding whether interim relief could be granted. The case will be called again on 28 and 29 March.

Upul Jayasuriya, President’s Counsel, instructed by Sampath Wijewardene and Varuni Gooneratne, appeared for Professor Harendra de Silva and the other three doctors of the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

The bench comprised Justice Sobitha Rajakaruna and Justice Dhammika Ganepola.
