The All-Ceylon Prison Officers’ Union yesterday commenced a two-day sick leave campaign in protest against the government’s failure to meet their demands, including a pay hike.

The sick note campaign would continue until Wednesday (22), Prison Union sources said.

Officers of the Prisons Department, across the country, joined the trade union action.

The main demand of prison officers is an immediate increase of their salaries by Rs. 25,000 each or a 40 percent increase in allowances.

The All-Ceylon Prison Officers’ Union says that salary increments have not been provided since 2014.

The union added that due to low salaries, over 100 Prison Officials had resigned.
