Prima in association with Sri Lanka Cricket uplifts junior cricketing talent in Sri Lanka

Prima has come forward as the sole sponsor for the Under-15 Sri Lanka Youth League (SLYL) inter-district and inter-provincial tournament organized and structured by the Sri Lanka Cricket National Talent Pathway programme with the objective of identifying youth cricketers with potential at an early age. The media conference was held at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) on the 21st of November 2022 with the participation of the senior management from the SLC and Prima Group Sri Lanka.

Prima U15 SLYL 2022 tournament’s provincial level 50 over match series will commence on 21st November with the participation of youth cricketers selected from district level and will be competing in five teams namely, Galle, Colombo North, Colombo South, Kandy and Dambulla in ten matches at Mercantile Cricket Association grounds and National Sports Grounds, Ratmalana. The final match of the Prima U15 SLYL 2022 tournament is scheduled to take place on 29th November. The players were selected by the SLC district and provincial coaches, under the supervision of the Junior National Selection Committee.

Prima Group Sri Lanka has been the official sponsor of Prima U15 SLYL tournament, which was formerly known as Prima Champions Cup, during the last 12 years, which had paved the way for thousands of young cricketers to represent their district and subsequently, their province. Many talented cricketers from past and present, who represent the national cricket team have had their beginnings at this tournament.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy General Manager, Ceylon Agro Industries, Prima –Group Sri Lanka, Sajith Gunaratne, stated: “It is with great pleasure that we announce Prima has once again joined hands with Sri Lanka Cricket in Prima Under-15 Sri Lanka Youth League 2022, the only junior cricket tournament endorsed by the governing body for cricket in Sri Lanka.”

“After a lapse of two years, we are proud and honoured to have joined forces with Sri Lanka Cricket again to continue with this revived edition of the tournament with the aim of encouraging the next generation of young cricketers in the country. We at Prima believe that it is our responsibility to encourage and inspire young sporting talent to improve themselves and gain due recognition. The Prima U15 Sri Lanka Youth League serves as a springboard for aspiring young cricketers to further develop their cricketing careers to national and thereon to international standards,”.
