Prez accepts Keheliya’s resignation
President Ranil Wickremesinghe has accepted Environment Minister Keheliya Rambukwella’s resignation, according to sources.
Earlier SJB MP Kavinda Jayawardana said that his party would move a second no-confidence motion against the former Health Minister unless the President sacked him over his alleged role in the human immunoglobulin scam.
Maligakanda Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrema, on 03 Feb., remanded, Rambukwella until 15 Feb., pending further investigations. The Kandy District SLPP MP is the first serving minister, in the history of this country, to face arrest and resign at an early stage of judicial inquiry into corruption. (SF)
