Former UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra, addressing the inaugural meeting of the All Party Women’s Front (APWF), said that for the past two decades females had been talking about ways and means of increasing their representation in political institutions and called upon female political activists to demand a 25% allocation of the nominations at the forthcoming Provincial Council from their party leaders and secretaries.

“If you do not make this demand, the male party leadership will never offer you nominations on a golden platter” she added.

She called upon all females not to bring in party politics into the forum and stay united.

Speaking on cyber bullying Hirunika said that she had been subject to much bullying on social media and females should not be affected by insulting social media posts as most of these insults originate from fake profiles.

The meeting was held at the Viharanahadevi Open Air Theatre on Thursday evening with the participation of around 50 female political activists including former MP Dr Anoma Gamage.
