President urges heads of plantation companies to finalize minimum labour wage before 31st December
President Ranil Wickremesinghe urged heads of plantation companies to engage in a collective agreement concerning the wage hike for plantation workers before 31st December. Plantation workers have requested for a minimum daily wage of Rs. 1700.
The President met with heads of plantation companies at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (08) to explore how regional plantation companies could align their programs with the agricultural modernization initiative outlined in this year’s budget.
Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Promotion Manusha Nanayakkara, Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake, Senior Advisor to the President on Economic Affairs Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, and representatives from local plantation companies attended the discussion.
