President Gotabaya Rajapaksa would give the final go ahead to officials on vaccinating those between 15 and 19 this week, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said yesterday.
“President Rajapaksa said that vaccinating those between 15 and 19 needed to start,” Gen. Silva said.
Vaccinating children undergoing cancer treatment and who had treatment within the last five years started at the Apeksha Cancer Hospital, Consultant Dr. Samanmalee Gunasekera said.
“We are doing this under strict medical supervision. No one has to worry,” she said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director General of Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath yesterday urged those between 20 and 29 to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
“These are people who travel outside their homes. They must think of their safety and that of their loved ones. If they are vaccinated not only does their immunity get strengthened from vaccination but also the viral load released from the body too is reduced in case of infection ,” he said.
