President orders more land to be released

President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday instructed officials from the Archaeology Department to release 229 acres in Thannimuruppu, Mullaitivu that the department had taken over from farmers of the area.

The Archaeology Department has been surveying the land in recent weeks.The land is located on the western border of the Kurundumale Temple, Mullaitivu. Earlier officials of the Archaeology Department had attempted to place a Buddha status in the land taken over from the farmers, who launched a protest campaign.
