President agrees to appoint PSC to investigate those responsible for economic crisis

President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Thursday (08) agreed to establish a Parliament Select Committee to investigate and identify politicians and officials responsible for the current economic crisis.

Addressing Parliament, Wickremesinghe said while he could appoint a Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI), it was much better for Parliament to probe the issue.The President made this statement in response to a request made by Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) MP Kabir Hashim.

“I have no objections to such a request. I think we must investigate things like tax concessions given by the previous President,” he said.
