Under 19 Cricket
by Reemus Fernando
Pramesh Madubashana scored a valuable century for Mahinda and spinner Chavindu Achintha produced his best bowling figures in First XI cricket for Devapathiraja as the two Under 19 matches were drawn yesterday.
In reply to Dharmasoka’s 210 runs, Mahinda were strongly placed at146 for one wicket overnight and Madubashana, who was not out on 78 went on to complete a valuable century. He scored 103 runs inclusive of 15 fours. The second wicket stand he put on with Dinura Kalupahana was worth 150 runs. Later Hiruna Gallage hammered 49 runs in 46 balls inclusive of eight fours and a six for Mahinda to post 265 for six wickets declared.
However, the teams had to be content with a draw as more than a session of play was lost due to rain.
At Sooriyawewa, spinner Achintha’s six wicket haul was the highlight of the drawn affair. He was the eighth bowler used by Devapathiraja after Gurukula openers Purina Kalhara (75) and Neluka Heshan (63) scored half centuries and put on a first wicket stand of 142 runs. Gurukula were 190 for one wicket when Achintha was introduced to the attack in the 40th over. He took a wicket each in his first four overs to trigger a collapse and ended up producing his best figures (12-3-28-6).
