Power Minister requests Speaker to summon trade unionist Ranjan Jayalal before Parliament

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera called on Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena in Parliament yesterday to summon trade unionist Ranjan Jayalal before the House Privilege committee.

Minister Wijesekera raising a privilege issue said trade unionist Ranjan Jayalal had told the media that Parliament had not settled electricity bills and arrears amounted to over Rs 70 million. “I checked with the Ceylon Electricity Board and Parliament. Those media reports are wrong. Jayalal has spread false information to bring this House into disrepute. Therefore, I call on the Speaker to summon Ranjan Jayalal before the parliament privilege committee and take legal action against him,” the minister said.
