Chairman of Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA), Major General (retd.) Upul Perera pinned a poppy on the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, at the Navy Headquarters yesterday (28), to mark the Remembrance Day.
The poppy campaign was originally adopted to honour the War Heroes killed during World War I and II. Today, the movement signifies the supreme sacrifices made by the military personnel in defence of the country and with true spirit of patriotism. All proceeds from poppy sales are channelled for the welfare of the retired and disabled war veterans. The event was also attended by a group of SLESA members.
