Police: Youth shot near Karapitiya hospital following aggressive move

Police fired at a youth following an altercation near the Karapitiya hospital, Galle, Saturday (10) night, around 11.30. The youth had suffered injuries to his jaw, police said, adding that one of the two law enforcement officers had fired his pistol when the youth made an aggressive movement.

Police motorcycle patrol attached to the Akmeemana police has been involved in the incident.

Police identified the youth who suffered gunshot injury as a 21-year-old resident of Wanchawala, Meegoda, in the Akmeemana police area. According to police, the youth had been with another person, and they arrived there on a scooter. The wounded person now warded at the Karapitiya hospita was the pillion rider. The rider of the scooter has also been arrested.
